Mount Union senior outfielder Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) and designated player Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) have been named to the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 Softball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Both advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
Gromes, an Academic All-District softball pick for a second time, is the Purple Raiders' top hitter leading the team with a .410 batting average, 43 hits, 22 runs batted in, eight doubles, three triples and four home runs.
Off the field, she has a 3.84 grade point average with a double major in Engineering and Art.
She is a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, was selected to the 2012 OAC All-Tournament team and is two-time Academic All-OAC. She also was CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District and Academic All-American volleyball seclection along with being OAC Libero of the Year and an All-American this past fall.
Siedlak is tied with Gromes for the team home run lead with four as the she is hitting .257 with 19 runs batted in.
She carries a 3.79 grade point average as a Mathematics major.
Both player have helped lead Mount Union to a 22-11 record and the Raiders play this weekend in the Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
To be selected Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average.
Sports Information Directors within a district vote for the Academic All-District teams with members of the CoSIDA Academic All-American committee voting on the national ballot. District 7 includes every NCAA Division III institutions in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.
