AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - - Freshman Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team Softball and was one of five from Mount Union selected to All-OAC by the league's 10 coaches.
Joining VanSickle were All-OAC Second Team selections in seniors Alex Mayo (Greenville/Ansonia), Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) and Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) while fellow senior Marissa Earl (Massillon/Washington) was an honorable mention selection.
VanSickle, a freshman, played in 31 games this season and had a batting average of .319. She had one home run, 11 RBI, 13 runs and three stolen bases. She is the first Mount Union freshman to be named to the first team since McAninch in 2010.
Mayo, who earned all-conference honors for the first time, played in 34 games and had a .309 batting average with one home run, 13 RBI, three stolen bases and was second on the team with 19 runs scored.
Gromes is a three-time all-conference pick as she was named to the first team in 2011 and an honorable mention selection last year. She leads the team with a .425 batting average, 29 runs, 48 hits, 26 RBI and was tied for the most home runs on the team with five.
McAninch, also a three-time all-conference selection as she was a first teamer in 2010 and 2011, entered the OAC Tournament with a 15-8 record and was second in the conference with a 1.90 ERA and 164 strikeouts.
Earl is on the all-conference team for the first time as she played in 34 games this season and had a batting average of .284 with 15 runs, 17 RBI and three stolen bases.
All five led Mount Union to just the program's second OAC Tournament title.
