Softball: Mount Union Faces Trine (Ind.) In An Elimination Game Friday At 10:00 a.m.

The Mount Union (25-12) softball team faces the top seed Trine (36-4) in an elimination game of NCAA Division III Softball Championship Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. 

The loser of Friday's game will be eliminated from the tournament. 

Scouting Mount Union: The Purple Raiders fell in the first game of the NCAA Tournament 2-1 to Aurora (Ill.). The Raiders are batting .287 as a team and have an ERA of 2.18. 

Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) leads the Raiders with a batting average of .415 with six home runs and 26 RBI. 

Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) leads the team with a 16-9 record with an ERA of 1.92 and 170 strikeouts. McAninch needs three more strikeouts to pass Lindsay Royer (172) for fourth all-time in school history for most strikeouts in a season.

Scouting Trine: The Thunder lost 5-1 to Anderson (Ind.) in the first game of the NCAA Tournament.  Trine has the third highest team batting average (.374) in the country and also features the nations seventh best ERA (1.38). 

Carly Searles leads the team with a batting average of .465 with three home runs and 33 RBI. Andi Gasco leads the Thunder with 18 home runs on the season which leads the country. 

Gasco also leads the team with an 18-3 record with a 1.49 ERA and has 112 strikeouts. 

Trine entered the NCAA Tournament on a 20 game win streak. 

Last meeting: Last year, Trine swept Mount Union at 23rd Street Field. 

The winner of tomorrow's game will face the loser of the game between Allegheny and Capital.
