TIFFIN, Ohio--The University of Mount Union softball team dropped a pair of games -- 7-6 and 12-4 -- to Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference, double header Monday.
The Purple Raiders fall to 10-12 overall (3-5 OAC) as Heidelberg moves to 18-4 (7-1 OAC).
In game one, the Student Princes got on the board first scoring one run off of two hits in the first inning.
The Raiders gained the lead in the third inning capitalizing off two Heidelberg errors scoring two runs -- 2-1.
Heidelberg regained the lead in the bottom of the third adding two runs. Four hits in the fifth inning led to four runs giving the Student Princes a 7-3 lead.
Heidelberg went on to take game one 7-6.
In game two, Mount Union trailed by one in the sixth inning before Heidelberg scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth ending the game 12-4.
Freshman Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) earned the Raiders first run of the game hitting a double to left center driving in one run.
Lehman hit a home run down the left field line in the third inning cutting the Heidelberg lead in half-- 3-2.
Senior Leigh Siedlak (Westerville/Westerville South) scored the Raiders third run of the game hitting a homerun to center field tying the game at 3-3.
Junior Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) drove home the Raiders final run hitting a double to center field.
Heidelberg scored seven runs in the sixth inning ending the game 12-4.
Mount Union next hosts Marietta Wednesday, April 8 at 3 and 5 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
