ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's softball team pounded out 27 hits in a two-game sweep of No. 17 in the nation Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference series Saturday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders won game one 8-5 then came back with a 10-6 win in game two to improve to 17-9 overall and 3-1 in the OAC while Heidelberg falls to 15-5 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.

Leading the hit parade was a junior catcher Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) and sophomore designated player Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick).

Lehaman went 7-for-7 on the day at the plate while Calhoun went 3-for-4 in game two that included a three run home run and a total of five RBI.

The Raiders also got a pair of solid compete game pitching wins from junior Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) in game one and senior Erin Simmons (Suffield/Field) in game two.

In game one, Heidelberg scored a run in the first on a wild pitch while Mount Union tied it in the bottom of the inning off an RBI ground out from Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville).

The Raiders scored two more in the third off a Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) sacrifice fly and a Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) RBI single to lead 3-1.

Heidelberg got one back in the fourth but Mount Union put two more on the board in the fifth off a two-run double from Andi Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) that made it 5-2.

The Berg scored another run in the sixth but the Raiders came back in the bottom of the sixth and got three runs as Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless), Kramer and Cox each drove in runs.

Heidelberg loaded the bases in the seventh before a line drive snagged by Cox at second and converted into a double play got two outs.  The Berg then scored two runs but the Raiders ended the threat and got the 8-5 win.

Scali struck out five and allowed just two earned runs to improve to 8-6 on the season.

In game two, Mount Union took a 1-0 lead on an RBI ground out from Jessica Kennedy (Beach City/Fairless) in the second.

Heidelberg scored two in the third to take a 2-1 lead but Mount Union rallied with three runs in the bottom of the third with the big hit coming on an RBI double from Vansickle to retake the lead, 4-2.

The Berg led off the fifth with a solo home run that got them within a run but again Mount Union answered in the bottom of the frame with a three-run home run from Calhoun.

Calhoun drove in another run in the sixth along with an RBI triple from Baitt and a sacrifice fly from Cox gave the Raiders a commanding 10-3 lead.

Once again Heidelberg would load the bases in the seventh and ended up scoring three runs before again a double play would help the Raiders as they ended the game on a grounder hit to Andi Vansickle at third who threw to her sister Shelby at first who then fired to the plate for the final out.

Simmons struck out three and improved to 9-1 on the season.

The Raiders, now winners of five straight, next play at Marietta in an OAC series Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. in Marietta.
