The University of Mount Union softball team looks forward to the 2017 season as a year ago the Purple Raiders had their highest win total since 2013.

Meghan Kishman enters her second season as head coach with the return of nine letterwinners and seven newcomers to form an experienced roster eager to begin the season Saturday, March 4 at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

In the circle, senior pitcher Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) is back after leading the Ohio Athletic Conference in strikeouts with 129 in 144.1 innings of work on her way to All-OAC honorable mention honors.

Scali has a familiar target behind the plate in senior catcher Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville), who was an All-OAC Second Team pick a year ago as she hit .419 with five home runs.

In the outfield, the Raiders welcome back two all-confernece players in juniors Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) and Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor).

Baitt earned All-OAC First Team honors as she recorded a conference leading 32 stolen bases with a .489 batting average and tied a school single-season hit record with 68.

Kramer was an All-OAC honorable mention selection who hit .392 with 10 stolen bases.

Anchoring the infield is senior Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville), who hit .273 with 13 extra base hits.

After returning from a week of games in Florida, Mount Union plays at Hiram Thursday, Mar. 16. The OAC opener is Saturday, March 25 at Baldwin Wallace and the home opener is Wednesday, April 5 at 3 p.m. against Marietta.
