CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team dropped a pair of games on its second day of competition in Clermont, Florida.
Mount Union (1-3) was defeated by Roanoke (Va.), 11-0, in its first game of the day. The Purple Raiders then dropped their second game of the day to Alfred (N.Y.) 6-4.
Against Roanoke (4-1), the Raiders only got one hit in the game from Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside), as the Maroons scored their first two runs in the third, but would blow the game open with seven runs in the sixth.
In the circle, Hannah Reusser (Minvera/Minerva) took the loss as she allowed four runs on eight hits.
Against Alfred (1-0), Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) lost her first game of the season as she threw a complete game allowing six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
The Saxons scored first with a two-run homerun in the third and kept their lead getting two more runs in the fifth inning.
Mount Union came out strong in the top of the seventh as Morgan Riley (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) doubled up the middle running Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) and Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) in. The Raiders tied the game up, 4-4, with hits from Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville).
Alfred got another two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh, to defeat Mount Union 6-4.
The Purple Raiders play tomorrow against Misericordia at 8:00 a.m. and St. Elizabeth at 10:30 a.m.
