CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games on its third day of competition in Clermont, Florida.
Mount Union (2-4) was defeated by Misericorida, 5-4, in its first game of the day. The Purple Raiders then rallied from the loss to defeat Saint Elizabeth, 21-1, in five innings.
Against Misericordia (1-2), the Cougars started off the game getting a run in each the first, second and third inning.
Mount Union had a big fourth inning as Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) and Stacy Laskowski (Parma/Normandy) each ran in a player for the Raiders. Mount Union tied the game up, 4-4, in the sixth with a triple from Shelby Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) ran in a Raider and a single from Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minvera) ran in Vansickle.
A walk off single in the bottom of the seventh for the Cougars gave them a 5-4 win over the Raiders.
In the circle, Scali took the loss as she allowed five runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
Against Saint Elizabeth (0-4), Reusser won her first collegiate game as she threw four innings only allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Mount Union came out strong getting 22 hits as a team. Twelve Raiders got hits including Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) and Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) with four hits, Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside) and Vansickle with three hits, Reusser, Scali, Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) and Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) with two hits and Cheyenne Byelene (Alliance/Alliance), Anna Saxton (Boardman/Boardman), Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) and Laskowski each having one hit.
The Raiders play tomorrow against Wittenberg at 8:00 a.m. and St. Benedict (Minn.) at 10:30 a.m.
