CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games on its fourth day of competition in Clermont, Florida.
Mount Union (2-5) was defeated by Wittenberg, 6-1, in its first game of the day. The Purple Raiders then rallied from the loss to defeat Saint Benedict, 10-6, in the last game of the day.
The Tigers had a big fifth inning getting four runs on three hits. Wittenberg finished out the game in the top of the seventh with two run as Mount Union could not get a run in the bottom of the seventh.
In the circle, Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) took the loss as she allowed four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Against Saint Benedict (Minn.) (3-2), Scali got her second win of the season pitching 2.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minvera) pitched 4.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits with a strikeout.
Mount Union earned five runs in the first two starting off the game strong. A homerun by Scali put the Raiders up 6-0 in the top of third, but CSB answered in the bottom of the third with a three-run home run.
A triple by Hume and another Raider homerun by Lehman pushed Mount Union to lead 9-3 in the top of the fourth. CSB responded in the bottom of the sixth with three runs of their own, but a bunt by Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) running in Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless) pushed Mount Union up 10-6, as the Raiders went on to win the game.
The Raiders play tomorrow against Moravian at 2:00 p.m. and Catholic at 4:30 p.m.
