Softball: Raiders Drop a Pair of Games on Fifth Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team dropped a pair of games on its fifth day of competition in Clermont, Florida.

Mount Union (3-7) was defeated by #17 Moravian, 12-0, in six innings its first game of the day. The Purple Raiders took the loss against Catholic (D.C), 8-5, in the last game of the day.

Against Moravian (6-0), Mount Union could only get three hits against an undefeated pitcher as Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville), Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) and Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) each had one hit in the game. Moravian scored nine of their 12 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

In the circle, Hannah Reusser took the loss as she played 5.2 innings and allowed eight runs on 12 hits.

Against Catholic (4-3), Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) got loss as she allowed eight runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.

Mount Union drove in the first run of the game as Emily Hume (Minerva/Minera) doubled to right center. Catholic had three runs off of four hits in the bottom of the fourth as Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside) singled in the top of the fifth put the Raiders down 3-2.

Another three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth put Catholic up 8-2.

The Raiders drove in three more runs in the top of the seventh, but could not push ahead of Catholic losing 8-5.

The Raiders play tomorrow against North Central (Minn.) at 8:00 a.m. and Alvernia (Pa.) at 10:30 p.m.
