CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team split a pair of games on its sixth day of competition in Clermont, Florida.
Mount Union (4-8) defeated by North Central (MN), 18-2, in five innings its first game of the day. The Purple Raiders took the loss against Alvernia (Pa.), 2-1, in the last game of the day.
Against North Central (0-4), Mount Union had 18 runs on 26 hits as 10 Raiders each had a hit. Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) and Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) each went four for four as Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside) went three for three against the Rams.
Other Raiders with hits were Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick), Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless) and Shelby Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) with three hits each, Cheyenne Byelene (Alliance/Alliance) and Hannah Reusser (Minvera/Minerva) each had two and Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) and Anna Saxton (Boardman/Boardman) each had one.
On the mound, Reusser earned her second win as she pitched three innings only allowing four hits and one run with five strikeouts. Sam Deanda (Gibonsburg/Gibonsburg) finished the last two innings allowing one hit and one run with two strikeouts.
Against Alvernia (7-1), Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) took loss as she only allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
Alvernia drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the second to lead the Raiders early. Mount Union tied the game up, 1-1, in the top of the fifth with a ground out by Hume driving Kramer in.
Only one hit by Mount Union occurred in sixth inning, as Alvernia had no hits in the fifth or sixth, but a walk-off single by the Crusaders got them a 2-1 win over the Raiders.
Mount Union plays its last two games in Clermont, Florida against Muhlenberg at 8:00 a.m. and Penn State New Kensington at 10:30 a.m.
