CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team swept a pair of games on its last day of competition in Clermont, Florida.
Mount Union (6-8) defeated Muhlenberg (Pa.) 3-1, with a walk-off two-run homerun by senior Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville). The Purple Raiders then defeated Penn State New Kensington, 17-1, in five innings.
Against Muhlenberg (2-7), the Mules scored the first run in the top of the first. Mount Union tied the game up, 1-1, as freshman Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleoi) drove in freshman Emily Hume (Minvera/Minerva).
A Hume single down right field line got a Raider on the base with two outs. Lehman smashed a two-run homerun to win the game 3-1.
On the mound, Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva) got the win as she pitched 4.1 innings only allowing three hits with two strikeouts.
Against the Lions, Reusser got her second win of the day pitching four innings only allowing one hit on one run with three strikeouts.
Brittany Baitt (Painsville/Riverside) started off the game with a triple to left center as Hume drove Baitt in to get a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mount Union drove in four runs in the fourth inning to lead the Lions 5-0.
Mount Union blew open the game with seven runs in the top of the fourth with Lehman's second homerun of the day driving in three of those seven runs.
Baitt hit her first homerun of the year getting the Raiders a 13-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Riley drove in two more Raiders with a double to left center to get a 15-1 lead. A double by Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) drove in two more runs for the Raiders. Mount Union took the 17-1 win as the Lions could not get a hit in the bottom of the fifth.
Mount Union travels to Hiram, Ohio to take on the Terriers Thursday, March 16 at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
