Softball: Raiders Drop a Pair of Non-Conference Games to Wooster Wednesday Afternoon

WOOSTER, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team lost a pair of games to non-conference opponent Wooster Wednesday afternoon in Wooster, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders (7-11) lost the first the first game 7-5 then lost to the Fighting Scots 3-1 in the second game.

In game one, the Raiders got the first run in the third inning as Emily Hume reached on an error as Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) ran in. The Fighting Scots answered with a run in the fourth.

Wooster went ahead and had a big fifth inning. The Fighting Scots ran in five runs on six hits with one of those hits being a two-run homerun, going up 6-1 on the Raiders. Wooster then scored another run in the sixth inning.

Mount Union fought back in the seventh inning driving in four runs as Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) had an RBI, Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa./Charleloi) had two RBI and Shelby Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) had an RBI. The Raiders to get within two runs, 7-5, but could not pass the Fighting Scots.

On the mound, Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva) took the loss as she allowed seven hits on 10 runs and falls to 5-4 on the season.

In the second game, Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) took the loss as she allowed three runs on five hits and had two strikeouts. Scali falls to 2-6 on the season.

Wooster scored the first run of the game in the first. After five scoreless innings, Brooke Cox (Louisville/Louisville) hit a double on the right field line in the top of the sixth to then score on an error by the Fighting Scots to tie the game, 1-1.

The Fighting Scots drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead the Raiders 3-1. Mount Union could not get a hit in the top of the seventh, as Wooster got the win.

Mount Union travels to Tiffin, Ohio Saturday, April 1 for a doubleheader against the Student Princes at 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
