UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio- Mount Union's softball team lost a pair of games to Ohio Athletic Conference opponent John Carroll Wednesday afternoon in University Heights, Ohio.
The Purple Raiders (12-16, 5-5 OAC) dropped the first game to the Blue Streaks 4-1 and took a 6-1 loss in the second game.
In game one, the Blue Streaks got on the board first as Carly Simecek hit a two- run home run to get a 2-0 lead over the Raiders.
Mount Union responded in the top of the second as Jessica Calhoun (Brunswick/Brunswick) started off the inning with a double to right field and advanced to third. Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) singled through the middle driving in Calhoun for a 2-1 score.
John Carroll drove in two more runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, to lead Mount Union 4-1. The Raiders went three and out in the top of the seventh to take the 4-1 loss against the Blue Streaks.
On the mound, Scali pitched six innings as she allowed four runs on seven hits. She falls to 4-9 on the season.
After four scoreless innings in game two, Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) ended the scoring drought with a bunt single to drive in Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless) to lead John Carroll 1-0 in the top of the fifth.
The Blue Streaks blew up the seventh inning as they drove in six runs. Hume singled in the seventh with one out, but the Raiders could not catch up to John Carroll as they lost the second 6-1.
Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva) took the loss as she pitched six innings allowing six runs on nine hits and had two strikeouts. Reusser moves to 8-7 on the season.
Mount Union travels to Columbus, Ohio Friday, April 14 to take on the Capital Crusaders at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
