DELAWARE, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team rallied in the second game of its non-conference doubleheader to earn a rare tie with Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio.
The Purple Raiders (17-20-1) dropped the first game 12-4 in five innings as Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) went three for three with three RBI. Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) went four for four with two RBI's in game two as Mount Union tied with the Battling Bishops, 8-8, due to darkness.
In game one, Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) started the Raiders off with a double and Lehman drove her in with a single to right center getting a 1-0 lead.
Ohio Wesleyan tied it up in the bottom of the first, but then blew up the third inning with seven runs to lead Mount Union 8-1.
A Lehman double drove two Raiders in to get within five of the Battling Bishops in the fourth, 8-3. Morgan Riley (Charleoi, Pa/Charleoi) drove in Lehman with a ground out to short stop to push the score to 8-4.
Three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for Ohio Wesleyan pushed their lead back up to seven, 11-4.
The Battling Bishops drove in one more run, to get the 12-4 win over the Raiders in five innings.
On the mound, Allie Scali (Parma/Parma) allowed seven runs on four hits and falls to 7-11 on the season.
In game two, the Battling Bishops started off driving in three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first. Mount Union responded as Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva) drove in the Raiders first run with a single RBI as Kramer then hit a two-out single RBI driving in Reusser putting the score at 3-2.
Mount Union was down by four going into the sixth inning but got within two of the Battling Bishops, 8-6, as Kramer and Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside) each drove in a run in the top of the sixth with no outs.
A single to right center from Hume and a throwing error on Ohio Wesleyan drove in two Raiders as Mount Union tied the game at 8.
Due to darkness, the Raiders and the Battling Bishops tied 8-8.
In the circle, Reusser pitched a full game allowing eight runs on 11 hits as her record stays at 10-8.
Mount Union next hosts Wilmington for Senior Day Saturday, April 29 for the Raiders last Ohio Athletic Conference regular season doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
