The Mount Union softball team begins their 2018 season in Florida at the PFX Spring Games where they will play 14 games over the course of seven days.
Meghan Kishman enters her third season as head coach for the Purple Raiders welcoming back 10 letterwinners with seven returning starters, while adding 10 fresh faces to the lineup.
Leading the way for the Raiders in 2018 is senior outfielder Brittany Baitt (Painesville/Riverside). Baitt earned All-OAC First Team honors last season with a .360 batting average, 20 stolen bases and 27 RBIs.
Baitt will not be alone in the upper classmen leadership category as Kishman also has senior outfielder Jordan Kramer (Mentor/Mentor) and junior outfielder Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) returning to the lineup. Kramer has made her way to All-OAC honors before and is looking to make it back this season as both her and the senior class are looking forward to what the season has in store. Hume returns with a .309 and 12 stolen bases alongside Kramer.
Young OAC-honorees returning for Mount Union this season are sophomores Morgan Riley (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) and Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva). Riley was the 2017 OAC Rookie of the Year with a .383 batting average with 39 RBIs and five homeruns. The All-OAC Honorable Mention-pitcher, Reusser, returns to the starting lineup with a 12-8 record in 129.1 innings pitched. In her 25 appearances, Reusser recorded 59 strikeouts and a 2.81 ERA.
Among newcomers is Margaret Dominick from Tuscarawas Central Catholic. Looking to make a strong presence on both offense and defense, the freshman infielder can be found on the Ohio High School Athletic Association leaderboard of RBIs in a season with 57.
Between new faces and new experience coming to the plate for Mount Union, Coach Kishman shared that "encouraging some of our younger players to take leadership roles is going to be a big factor for us as well, but I am excited to see what we can do."
In Clermont, Florida, Mount Union will first face off against Southwestern (Tex.) and Houghton (N.Y.) on Saturday, March 3 in a 2:00/4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
