CLERMONT, Fla. – The Mount Union softball team defeated Mount Ida (Mass.) and Morrisville State (N.Y.) Tuesday afternoon at Legends Way.
Against Mount Ida (2-4), the score was tied at 2-2 after the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Brittany Baitt (Painesville / Riverside) was able to score off an error in right field and then an inside-the-park home run by Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Jackson) drove both her and Jordan Tull (Brewster / Fairless) home to make it 5-2.
After being behind 6-2, Mount Ida would close in with a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 6-4 but an RBI single up the middle by Jordan Kramer (Mentor) would score Emily Hume (Minerva) to finish off the game 7-4.
In the second game of the day, Mount Union defeated Morrisville State (0-1) 13-1 in five innings. Despite the final score, the Raiders had trouble getting on base, let alone getting runs.
