CLERMONT, Fla. – Mount Union's softball team dropped a pair of games on Thursday afternoon to Concordia (Ill.) and Ursinus (Pa.) at Hancock Park.

The Purple Raiders fall to 5-7 after winning four straight games earlier in the week.

Against Concordia (5-2), Mount Union followed their offensive trend of scoring first with a two-run home run from Margaret Dominick (Dennison/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) in the first inning. In the bottom half of one, Concorida tabbed a run of their own before scoring four in the second and then five in the third inning to lead Mount Union 10-1.

Mount Union came back to life in the top of the fifth with bases loaded and drove in three runs off a walk from Allie Goldy (Painesville/Riverside) and RBI singles from Shelby Vansickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) and Cheyenne Miller (Salem/West Branch). Morgan Riley (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) added in a sac fly to left field in the top of the sixth to make it 10-6 with three at-bats left.

Concordia was able to squeeze in one more run and then hold off the Raiders as they won 11-6.

Starting pitcher Hannah Reusser (Minerva/Minerva) is now 3-3 as she received the loss in 2.2 innings pitched while giving up 10 runs off 12 hits.

Against Ursinus (5-3), Mount Union got off to a slow start with the game being score-less through two innings. Ursinus errupted during the third through fifth inning, scoring eight runs getting ahead of Mount Union 8-0. The Raiders got their first point off an RBI from Emily Hume (Minerva/Minerva) in the bottom of the fifth and would not score again for the remainder of the game.

A two-run homer and an RBI in the top of the seventh wrapped things up for Ursinus, defeating Mount Union 12-1.

Jordan Tull (Brewster/Fairless) would receive the loss to become 1-3 as she started the game but only gave up two runs in three innings pitched with four hits and a strikeout.

Mount Union will conclude their Florida trip with games against Lebanon Valley (Pa.) and Dominican (Ill.) Friday, March 9 at 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in Minneola, Florida.
