ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union softball team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games to Heidelberg 7-1 in game one and 9-6 in eight innings in game two Friday at 23rd Street Field.
The Purple Raiders are now 10-18 overall and 3-9 in the OAC while the Student Princes improve to 20-8 overall and 10-2 in the OAC.
In game one, the Heidelberg offense scored single runs in the first and second and pushed the lead to 5-0 with three runs in the third. The Berg scored two in the seventh to push the lead to 7-0 and Mount Union avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Brittany Baitt (Painsville / Riverside) sacrifice fly.
Kaitlyn Moore allowed only three Raider hits to get the complete game pitching win for Heidelberg.
In game two, Heidelberg claimed a 3-0 lead as they tagged two runs in the second inning and one in the third.
Mount Union rallied back as Morgan Riley (Charleroi, Pa.) hit her sixth home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the third and in the fourth, Cheyenne Miller (Salem / West Branch), Riley and Brittany Baitt (Painesville / Riverside) each drove in runs as the Raiders took a 4-3 lead.
Heidelberg scored two runs in the sixth to retake the lead 5-4 but the Raiders came back again in the bottom half of the inning as Riley had a two-out double and came around to tie the game when Jordan Kramer (Mentor) reached on an error. Kramer then gave Mount Union back the lead, 6-5, when she scored on a Baitt double.
Heidelberg pushed an unearned run across in the seventh to tie the game then scored three times in the eighth to take the game, 9-6.
Baitt and Riley each drove in two runs and Hannah Reusser (Minerva) went the distance in the circle for the Raiders striking out four in the loss.
Mount Union next hosts John Carroll in an OAC doubleheader Tuesday, Apr. 17 at 3 p.m. at 23rd Street Field.
