ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's softball squad dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games 6-2 and 7-2 to Ohio Northern Saturday at 23rd Street Field.
The Purple Raiders, now 13-13 overall and 1-7 in the OAC, were led by Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) who each collected two hits to headline the offense.
Ohio Northern (13-9, 7-1 OAC) got on the board first in game one with an RBI single. The Polar Bears then added two in the third to make the score 3-0.
The Raiders shrank the lead to 3-1 in the fourth with an RBI single from Anna Saxton (Boardman).
Ohio Northern plated two runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to make it 6-1.
An RBI single from Hellman in the seventh to cut the deficit to four but the rally stopped there as Ohio Northern went on to the 6-2 win.
Alexandra Pasco (Wadsworth / Highland) pitched the final 2.1 innings striking out three batters in the loss.
The Polar Bears again got on the board first in game two plating three runs before the Raiders responded with a single run in the bottom frame off a wild pitch to make it 3-1.
Ohio Northern collected a run with an RBI single in the second before Mount Union tallied a run with a sacrifice fly from Dominick in the third that made the score 4-2.
The Polar Bears added three runs in the sixth to go on to take the second game 7-2.
Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) pitched all 7.0 innings for the Raiders fanning five batters in the loss.
Mount Union stays at home facing Marietta on Wednesday, April 10 with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at 23rd Street Field.
