ALLIANCE, Ohio--Mount Union's softball team split with Marietta in Ohio Athletic Conference action losing the first game 5-1 before taking the second 5-3 Wednesday at 23rd Street Field.
The Purple Raiders, 14-14 overall and 2-8 in the OAC, were led by Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) who belted two homers between both games while four different Mount Union players registered two hits to headline the offense.
Marietta (17-11, 6-4 OAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame before Pidgeon homered to tie the game in the bottom half inning.
The Pioneers regained the lead in the second with a single run to make it 2-1. Marietta later added runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to go to the 5-1 victory.
Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) pitched all 7.0 innings for the Raiders striking out two batters faced in line for the loss.
In game two, Mount Union got on the board first with an RBI single from Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) in the third to take a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders blew the game open with a four-run fifth highlighted by a three-run home run from Pidgeon to make the score 5-0.
Marietta retaliated in the sixth with a three-run homer but the rally stopped there as Mount Union went on to take the win 5-3.
Alexandra Pasco (Wadsworth / Highland) pitched 7.0 innings striking out six in the victory.
Mount Union travels to Heidelberg on Saturday, April 13 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Tiffin, Ohio.
