Softball: Raiders Split OAC Doubleheader with Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio -- Mount Union's softball team split in Ohio Athletic Conference action dropping the first game 3-2 before taking the second game 7-1 against Heidelberg Saturday at Frann's Field. 

The Purple Raiders, now 15-15 overall and 3-9 in the OAC, were led by Allie Goldy (Painesville / Riverside) who collected three hits in game two to headline the Raider offense. 

Heidelberg (12-14, 5-7 OAC) got on the board in the opening frame scoring two runs to take an early 2-0 advantage. 

The Student Princes added to their lead off a wild pitch in the second to make it 3-0. 

Mount Union retaliated scoring two runs in the third sparked by an RBI double from Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) to cut the lead to 3-2. 

Heidelberg went on to take the first game 3-2 shutting out the Raiders through final four innings. 

Alexandra Pasco (Wadsworth / Highland) pitched 6.0 innings fanning two batters in line for the game one loss. 

The Raiders got the bats going in game two breaking the scoreless tie with a four-run third highlighted by a three RBI double from Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) to lead 4-0.

Mount Union added two runs in the sixth off another RBI double from Savannah Miner (Louisville) and an RBI single from Emily Hume (Minerva) to make the score 7-0. 

Heidelberg tallied a run in the seventh before the Raiders went on to take the game 7-1. 

Ashley Cascio (Elyria / Elyria Catholic) picked up her first win of the season striking out one over 7.0 innings of work. 

Mount Union stays on the road traveling to John Carroll on Tuesday, April 16 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader in University Heights, Ohio.
