UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio--Mount Union's softball squad picked up a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference wins over John Carroll 13-6 and 3-2 Tuesday at Bracken Field.
Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) collected five hits driving in three runs in game one as the Purple Raiders (17-15 overall and 5-9 in the OAC) had four different players record two or more hits between both games.
Mount Union started game one with a Blue Streaks error that gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
John Carroll (10-24 overall and 2-12 in the OAC) plated five runs in the bottom frame to take a quick 5-1 advantage.
The Raiders slowly chipped away at the lead with single runs in the third and fourth before blowing the game open with a five-run sixth highlighted by a two-RBI double from Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) to take an 8-5 lead.
After a John Carroll home run in the bottom half cut the lead to 8-6, Mount Union added five runs in the seventh sparked by a two-RBI double from Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) to take the 13-6 game one victory.
Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) took the win pitching 6.0 innings and striking out one batter.
Mount Union again got on the board first to start game two before John Carroll tied the game at one in the third with a home run.
The Raiders took back the lead in the fourth with an RBI single from Natalie Martin (Millersburg / West Holmes) to make it 2-1.
John Carroll tied the game at two before a wild pitch in the eighth gave Mount Union the lead at 3-2.
Alexandra Pasco (Wadsworth / Highland) pitched the final 3.0 innings of game two retiring the last eight batters, six by strikeout in line for the 3-2 win.
Mount Union returns home to face Wilmington on Thursday, April 18 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at 23rd Street Field.
