DELAWARE, Ohio -- Mount Union's softball squad swept Ohio Wesleyan 8-7 and 8-2 in non-conference action Wednesday at Margaret Sagan Field.
The Purple Raiders win streak stretches to seven games as they move to 21-15 overall while Ohio Wesleyan drops to 11-25 with the sweep.
Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and Allie Goldy (Painesville / Riverside) each registered with three hits during the two games while Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) collected three hits to headline the offense.
Mount Union got on the board first in the second inning of game one plating three runs to take a 3-0 lead before Ohio Wesleyan got a run back in the bottom frame to shrink the deficit to 3-1.
The Raiders added a lone run in the third off a sacrifice fly from Payton Guspyt (Port Washington / Indian Valley) to make it 4-1.
The Bishops took control of the game with a five-run fourth to shift the score to 6-4.
Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) belted a homer in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-5. Later in the inning, back-to-back sacrifice flies from Anna Saxton (Boardman) and Alexis French (Rocky River / Magnificat) to take back the lead at 8-6.
Ohio Wesleyan scored a lone run in the bottom frame, but the rally stopped there as Mount Union took an 8-7 victory.
Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) pitched all 7.0 innings for the Raiders in line for the win.
A sacrifice fly by Pidgeon in the third of game two broke the scoreless tie and gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders doubled their lead in the fourth with an RBI groundout from Emily Hume (Minerva).
Ohio Wesleyan tallied a run in the bottom frame to cut the lead to 2-1.
Mount Union put three more on the board in the fifth highlighted by a two-RBI single from Dominick before The Bishops responded in the bottom half to make it 5-2.
The Raiders added three insurance runs in the sixth sparked by an RBI single from Hellman to go on to the 8-2 win.
Ashley Cascio (Elyria / Elyria Catholic) started game two pitching 5.0 innings in line for the win.
Mount Union returns home on Friday, April 26 for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader against Wooster on Senior Day at 23rd Street Field.
