CLERMONT, Fla. - The Mount Union softball team won two games on day three of The Spring Games at Hancock Park.
The Purple Raiders (4-2) defeated Suffolk (0-3) 11-6 and Ursinus (Pa.) (3-2) 10-2.
Against Suffolk, Mount Union held the Rams scorless taking an 8-0 lead after three innings. Suffolk scored six runs in the next three innings but it wouldn't be enough. 11 different Raiders recorded hits, but freshman Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) led the offense with three hits, two runs, two triples, and five RBIs. Junior Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and sophomore Hanna Ingram (Stow) both tallied three hits, while junior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) drove in three runs to contribute to the 11-6 win.
Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Rose (Madison) (1-1) earned her first win of the season pitching 5.1 innings for six runs off seven hits with 11 strikeouts and four walks.
Mount Union defeated Ursinus (Pa.) in five innings with Ingram and Rose headlining the 10-2 win both recording out-of-the-park home runs for the first two home runs of the season. The Bears scored the first run of game, but the Raider defense help the them scoreless for the next three innings. Mount Union's offense tallied six hits, 10 runs, and 10 RBis.
Sophomore pitcher Cheyanne Bosse grabbed her second win of the season pitching seven innings with two runs, zero hits, five walks, and five strikeouts.
Mount Union continues play Tuesday, March 10 facing Trinity (Tex.) and Penn State-Behrend (Pa.) at 9 and 11:30 a.m. in Clermont, Fla.
