MINNEOLA, Fla. - The Mount Union softball team won two games for their fourth consecutive sweep Thursday evening at the Minneola Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (10-2) defeated Wheaton (Ill.) (3-4) 14-4 and continued on to defeat Ithaca (N.Y.) (2-6) 5-3.
Against Wheaton, junior Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and freshman Gabby Street (Malvern / Minerva) both recorded home runs. This is Dominick's first homer of the season and Streets first of her career. Junior Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) led the offense with three hits, three runs, and three RBIs. Freshman Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch) also tallied three runs, while junior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) and Dominick added three more RBIs.
Sophomore Cheyanne Bosse (Montville / Berkshire) earned her third win of the season pitching all five innings with four runs off three hits, four strikeouts and two walks.
The Raiders took their first lead of the game in the second inning aftering sophomore Payton Guspyt (Port Washington / Indian Valley) and junior Alexis French (Rocky River / Magnificat) recorded runs. The Bombers came within one in the fifth inning, 4-3, put Mount Union held them off as Dominick hit a sacrifice fly to send Heath home.
In the mound freshman Emily Ungrady (Kirtland) added another win pitching four innings with two runs off two hits, four walks, and four strikeouts. Sophomore Ashley Cascio (Elyria / Elyria Catholic) came in as a relief pitching the final three innings giving up one run off twos, no walks, and two strikeouts.
Mount Union will play DeSales (Pa.) and Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) tomorrow, March 13 at 9:15 and 11:30 a.m. in Leesburg, Fla.
