Softball: Raiders End Season With Fifth Sweep For Best Start in Program History

LEESBURG, Fla - The Mount Union softball team ended their season with two more victories stretching their win streak to 10 Friday afternoon at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Center.

This was senior Anna Saxton (Boardman) and student coach Morgan Riley's last game as a Purple Raider as the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.

The Raiders improved their record to 12-2 which is the best start to a season in program history.

Mount Union defeated Carnegie Mellon 4-1 in game one with junior Brooklyn Hellman (Canton / Massillon Jackson) leading the offense going 2-4 at bat, recording a triple, and one run. Junior Maggie Dominick (Dennison / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) contributed with two RBIs scoring junior Maddie Pidgeon (Salem / West Branch) and freshman Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch). The final run came from freshman Taylor Gerback (Louisville / Marlington) off a Saxton single.

Sophomore Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) earned her second win of the season pitching three innings with one run off four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

In game two against DeSales, The Raiders won 4-1 once again. Heath batted 1.000 going 3-3 at bat, leading the Raider offense with a triple, three RBIs, and one run. Scores came from Heath, Hellman, and junior Savannah Miner (Louisville).

In the mound was sophomore Alyssa Rose taking her second win pitching six innings with eight hits, one runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. 

This concludes the 2020 season, the Raiders will be back in action in 2021.
