Three Named All-OAC Women's Basketball; LaMattina Named OAC Freshman of the Year

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio--Mount Union freshman point guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year to headline three Purple Raiders named to the All-OAC teams by the league's 10 head coaches.

LaMattina, also an All-OAC Second Team selection, has started all 28 games and leads Mount Union in scoring (11.6 ppg), three-point shooting (49-102, .480), assists (74) and steals (62).

Senior guard Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) was named to the All-OAC First Team as she started all 28 games and is the team's second leading scorer at 11.0 ppg and hauls down 4.5 rebounds per game.  Pohovey is the first Mount Union player since Ashley Bourdeau in 2004 to be a first team selection.

The duo were also named to the OAC All-Tournament team with LaMattina selected as OAC Tournament MVP after leading the Raiders to their second OAC Tournament title in history and first since 1998.

Sophomore guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) rounded out the selections as she was named All-OAC honorable mention. Wiedt played in 24 games with 23 starts, averages 10.5 points per game and is second on the team with 48 made three pointers.

The trio have led Mount Union to a 24-4 record, an OAC Tournament championship and back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998.  The Raiders play Washington & Jefferson (PA) Friday at 5 pm at Messiah College in Grantham, PA.
