Three Named All-OAC Women's Basketball; LaMattina Named OAC Freshman of the Year
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio--Mount Union freshman point guard Rosa
LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) was named Ohio Athletic
Conference Freshman of the Year to headline three Purple Raiders
named to the All-OAC teams by the league's 10 head coaches.
LaMattina, also an All-OAC Second Team selection, has started all
28 games and leads Mount Union in scoring (11.6 ppg), three-point
shooting (49-102, .480), assists (74) and steals (62).
Senior guard Tessa
Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) was named to the All-OAC First
Team as she started all 28 games and is the team's second leading
scorer at 11.0 ppg and hauls down 4.5 rebounds per game.
Pohovey is the first Mount Union player since Ashley Bourdeau in
2004 to be a first team selection.
The duo were also named to the OAC All-Tournament team with
LaMattina selected as OAC Tournament MVP after leading the Raiders
to their second OAC Tournament title in history and first since
1998.
Sophomore guard Kori Wiedt
(North Olmsted/North Olmsted) rounded out the selections as she was
named All-OAC honorable mention. Wiedt played in 24 games with 23
starts, averages 10.5 points per game and is second on the team
with 48 made three pointers.
The trio have led Mount Union to a 24-4 record, an OAC Tournament
championship and back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time
since 1998. The Raiders play Washington & Jefferson (PA)
Friday at 5 pm at Messiah College in Grantham, PA.
