AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- The Mount Union women's basketball team is ranked atop the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll as announced by the league Thursday morning.
The Purple Raiders, who received 81 total points including nine first-place votes, return all but one starter from a squad that won the OAC Tournament and advanced to last season's NCAA Sweet 16.
Sophomore Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) is back after she was named OAC Freshman of the Year. Also an All-OAC Second Teamer from a year ago, LaMattina is joined by three fellow returning starters: senior Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) and juniors Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) and Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted). Wiedt was an All-OAC Honorable Mention in both 2008-09 and 2009-10.
Baldwin-Wallace second on the poll with 72 points and one first place vote. Ohio Northern is ranked third (61) and Capital is fourth (59).
Mount Union will open its season at home for the first time in Coach Suzy Venet's tenure. The Raiders are scheduled to host Westminster (Pa.) on November 15 at 7 p.m.
