GAME PREVIEW - #4 Women's Basketball Travels Saturday to Waynesburg

No. 4 ranked Mount Union goes on the road to face Waynesburg (Pa.) University Saturday, Nov. 24 at 1 pm at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pa.

Mount Union is 3-0 and enters the game with a non-conference win streak of 26 games dating back to the 2008-09 season.

The Purple Raiders are coming off a 59-46 win over Bethany (W.Va.) Tuesday in the home opener.  Bethany and Waynesburg are both members of the Presidents Athletic Conference.

Against Bethany, senior forward Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) had a season-high 14 points and five rebounds while fellow senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 10 points with a season-best six assists.

LaMattina leads the Raiders at 14.3 points, 4.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game.

Senior guard Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) is the leading rebounder at 8.7 per game.

Waynesburg is 1-2 on the season as the Yellow Jackets are coming off a 65-64 loss to Mt. Aloysius (Pa.) in their home opener this past Tuesday.

Senior guard Brittany Spencer leads the way for Waynesburg as she averages 15.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.  The Jackets average 73.7 points as a team.

Mount Union stays on the road playing next Wed., Nov. 28 at 6pm at Denison.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 135-63 in her eighth season at her Alma mater.  Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader.  As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament.  She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012.  She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.).  Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 145-79.

Sam Jones (Mount Union '95) is 59-54 in his fifth season at Waynesburg.  He has led the Jackets to ECAC post-season play in each of the last two seasons including a 20-8 mark a year ago.  Jones spent three years as a men's basketball assistant and one as an assistant on Coach Venet's staff at Mount Union before going to Waynesburg.
