The Purple Raiders (6-0, 2-0 OAC) are coming off a 84-63 win at Heidelberg last Saturday as the senior guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) led the way with 26 points. Under head coach Suzy Venet's direction, the Raiders lead the series against Heidelberg 14-1, with Mount Union taking the last 14 games.

Freshman Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) came off the bench and added 16 points as sophomore Aly Daniel (Willard/Willard) chipped in 10 points.

On the season, LaMattina leads the Raiders with averages 17.7 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 steals per game.

Otterbein (6-1, 2-0) comes into the game Saturday after a win at Muskingum 66-63 on Dec. 8 pushing their win streak to six in a row.

The Cardinals are led by senior forward Hannah Day, who averages 16.6 points per game while sophomore forward Tabatha Piper is second in scoring averaging 10.4 points per game.

Mount Union faces Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Baldwin Wallace Wednesday Dec. 19 at 7:30 pm at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

THE SERIES

This will be the 72nd meeting between the teams since 1984 with Mount Union holding a 33-28 lead in the series. The Raiders have won six of the last seven games including the win January 21, 2012 -- 76-50.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 139-63 in her eighth season at her Alma mater.  Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader.  As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament.  She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012.  She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.).  Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 150-79.

Connie Richardson (Heidelberg '86) is 297-252 in her 22nd season at Otterbein. Richardson ranks as the winningest coach in women's basketball at Otterbein. Richardson is a two-time OAC Coach of the year (2001 & 2005).
