GAME PREVIEW: No. 2 Ranked Women’s Basketball Heads to Springfield, Ohio to Take Part in The Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic.

No. 2 ranked Mount Union Women's Basketball plays on the road against Albion (Mich.) Friday Dec. 28 at 12:00 pm in Springfield, Ohio as they take part in a two day tournament at Wittenberg University for the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic.

The Purple Raiders (9-1, 4-1 OAC) are coming off a 59-57 loss at Capital last Saturday at the Capital Center as senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) led the way with 15 points as freshman Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) came off the bench with 10 points as the double-digit scorers for the Raiders.

On the season, LaMattina leads the Raiders with averages 19.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game.

Albion College (3-8, 1-4 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) is coming in off a 61-51 win against Michigan-Dearborn on December 19th.

Mount Union continues the Zimmerman Memorial Classic when they face Wittenberg or Defiance on Saturday December 29.

COACHES

Mount Union: Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 141-64 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 152-80.

Albion: Doreen Carden is 192-104 in her 12th year at Albion. Lead the Britons to winning seasons 10 out of 11 years at Albion. Carden's teams won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's regular season championship in 2005, and the Tournament title in 2004. Albion has made two trips to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Defiance: Jessica Morris (Dubuque '05) became the 12th head coach in the 40 year history of the Yellow Jacket women's basketball program. She previously served as the assistant coach at Whitman College. With Morris on the staff, Whitman College went 31-21 over the past two years, posting a 21-11 mark within the Northwest Conference.

Wittenberg: Sarah Jurewicz (Wittenberg '98) is 74-57 overall at Wittenberg when she returned in the 2007-2008 season. She was the interim coach before getting named the permanent coach in March 2008. Jurewicz previously worked as an assistant coach at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She spent four season with Colorado, where the team improved from 2-20 in 2003-04 to 15-10 in 2005-06.
