Osborne Scores Career High as #2 Women’s Basketball Beats Albion

Sophomore Nancy Osborne

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Sophomore Nancy Osborne (North Canton/ GlenOak) scored a career-high 13 points to lead the No. 2 ranked Mount Union women's basketball team to a 68-53 win over Albion (Mich.) Friday in the first round of the Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

The big key for Mount Union (10-1) was three-point shooting as the Purple Raiders hit 10-of-30 from beyond the arc as compared to the Britons who went 1-of-10.

Along with Osborne, senior guard Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) scored 13 points, senior Rosa LaMattina (Wooster/Wooster) scored 10 points as the other double digit scorers for the Raiders.

Leading the way for Albion (3-9) was Brett de Bear with game-high 25 points.

Mount Union never trailed as they got off to a 12-2 run within the first three minutes of the game. The lead would go to as many as 13 points twice with the last time being, 32-19 with 3:26 remaining. Albion would rally as the Britons closed the half on a 12-1 surge to get within two points, 32-31, at the break.

The Raiders opened the second half on a 9-2 run with Allen scoring seven of those nine points to stretch the lead back out to nine points, 42-33.  The Britons rallied again, getting within four points, but back-to-back three pointers from Allen and Osborne pushed the lead to 55-45 with just less than seven minutes to play and put the game away.

Mount Union next plays host Wittenberg Saturday, Dec. 29 at 4:30 pm.
