GAME PREVIEW: No. 13 Ranked Women’s Basketball Travels to No. 12 Ohio Northern Saturday

No. 13 ranked Mount Union's women's basketball plays on the road against Ohio Northern Saturday January 5 at 3:00 pm in Ada, Ohio in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.

The Purple Raiders (10-2, 4-1 OAC) are coming off a 61-60 loss at Wittenberg last Saturday at the Zimmerman Memorial Classic. The first day of the tournament the Raiders beat Albion (Mich.) 68-30, Mount Union was led by sophomore Nancy Osborne (North Canton/GlenOak) with 13 points. In the loss to Wittenberg, the Raiders were led by senior Marybeth Leitch (Rocky River/Rocky River) with 15 points, both performances were career bests for Osborne and Leitch.

Ohio Northern (11-1, 5-0 OAC) is coming in off a 83-50 win against Adrian on December 29th. The Polar Bears are led by junior Cenzie Yoder who averages 15.5 point per game, senior Joanna Snyder with 12.7 points per game and senior Morgan Dumbaugh with 11.2 points per game.

Mount Union hosts Marietta Wednesday January 9th at 7:30 pm in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

THE SERIES

This will be the 63rd meeting between the teams with Mount Union holding a 33-29 lead in the series.  The Raiders have won eight-straight games and 10 of the last 11 meetings, with the last Polar Bear win coming in 2008-09 -- 47-44 in Alliance.  Mount Union swept the season meetings last year -- 85-71 in Alliance, Jan. 7th, 72-68 in Ada, Feb. 11th, and 77-60 in OAC Tournament Championship at the MAAC on Feb. 25th.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 142-65 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 152-80.

Michele Durand (Bluffton '88) is in her 11th season at Ohio Northern coming off last season's third place finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference at 17-10 overall. Durand led them to this finish which tied the program's best in the past 17 years, the 2006-07 team finished fourth in the OAC. Her leadership took the program to a 19-7 overall and 14-4 in the OAC finishing second in the 2007-08 campaign.
