GAME PREVIEW: No. 20 Ranked Women’s Basketball Hosts Wilmington Saturday

No. 20 ranked Mount Union hosts Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup Saturday Jan. 12th at 3:00 pm in Alliance.

There will be a LIVE STATS feed and the game will be broadcast on the radio on WDPN 1310 AM and LIVE AUDIO online at athletics.mountunion.edu

The Purple Raiders (11-3, 5-2 OAC) are coming off a 68-35 win over Marietta Wednesday January 9th at the MAAC as senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight steals.

On the season, the Raiders are led by LaMattina who averages 17.1 points per game.

Wilmington (9-5, 5-2 OAC) comes into the game after a 65-56 defeat to Otterbein this past Wednesday.

The Quakers are led by senior Brianna Peters who averages 10.1 points per game.

Mount Union travels on the road to Muskingum in an OAC game Wednesday January 16th at 7:30 pm in New Concord, Ohio.

THE SERIES

Mount Union has won four-straight meetings between the two teams, holding the 6-4 lead in the past 10 games, with Wilmington holding a 11-7 lead since the 2005-06 campaign. The last win for the Quakers was in quarterfinals of the 2009 OAC Tournament, 65-61.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 143-66 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 154-82.

Jerry Scheve is 423-182 in his 23rd season at Wilmington and has recorded 413 wins. With Scheve on the sideline, the Quakers average more than 19 wins a season. He was named the National Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Quakers to the 2003-04 NCAA Divison III national championship. Scheve also has been named Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, Ohio Women's Basketball Coach of the Year as well as Coach of the Year in the AMC, HCAC and the OAC.
