Baldridge Scored Career-High As No.20 Women's Basketball Wins At Home Against Wilmington

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Freshman Jessie Baldridge (Mount Gilead/Mount Gilead) scored a career-high 26 points as No. 20 Mount Union won over Wilmington, 85-75 in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday January 12th at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

With its win, Mount Union moves 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the OAC.

Baldridge led the way for the Purple Raiders with 26 points going 11-of-13 from the field and four-of-six from the free throw line.

Senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) and junior Amanda Turner (Wooster/Wooster) chipped in with 16 points and 11 points respectively while senior Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) cleaned up the glass with a game high 10 rebounds in the win for the Raiders.

Wilmington (9-6, 5-3 OAC) was  led by junior Haley Howard with 14 points, senior Brianna Peters with 12 and sophomore Spencer Robles with 11 points in the loss for the Quakers.

The lead changed hands four times and was tied nine times in the first half of the game. Mount Union jumped out to an early 6-2 lead after LaMattina hit a three-pointer at 17:27, and Baldridge had a free-throw (16:56) and a layup at the 16:23 mark. The first lead for the Quakers came at the 14:27 mark with a layup from senior Emily Zimmerman, 6-8.  

The score would remain close during the duration of the first half, with the Raiders largest lead (six points) coming at the 9:05 mark 20-14. The Quakers would push to come back to within one point at the 6:04 mark, 22-21. The game would be tied five times under the 6:00 mark in the half before the Raiders had a four point lead going into the half, 38-34.

The Quakers started the second half off with a 5-0 run to take the lead for their final lead of the game at the 17:37 mark, 39-38. After the game was tied at the 16:58 mark, 41-41, the Raiders took the lead and never look back, Baldridge scoring 10 of her 14 second half points. The largest lead of the game for the Raiders would come with 5:12 left in the game on a three from Turner, 71-58.

With the 85-75 final, the Raiders set a new season high with total points in a game, previously held in the 84-63 win at Heidelberg on December 8th, 2012.

Mount Union travels to Muskingum for an OAC game in New Concord, Ohio, Wednesday Jan. 16th at 7:30 pm.
