No. 21 Women’s Basketball Wins On the Road At Muskingum, 72-57

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – No. 21 Mount Union won over Muskingum, 72-57 in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday January 16th at the Muskingum Recreation Center.

With its win, Mount Union moves 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the OAC.

Senior duo Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) and Marybeth Leitch (Rocky River/Rocky River) led the way for the Purple Raiders with 15 points and 10 points respectively.

Leitch and senior Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) both grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Muskingum (6-10, 1-8 OAC) was led by senior Hannah Nelson with game high 25 points. Junior Gabbi Davis and freshman Karen Sidwell chipped in with 13 and 11 points respectively in the loss for the Muskies.

The lead changed hands six times and was tied three times in the first half of the game. Mount Union would get its largest lead of the half (eight points) at the 7:01 mark when Letich made a fastbreak layup and got fouled adding the third point on the free-throw line, 27-19. The largest lead for the Muskies in the first half would be one point that they got three times. The Muskies would close the first half on a 7-2 run bringing the score to a two point game 33-31.

The Raiders would start the second up by two and kept building from there. The Raiders went up by four on the first bucket of the second half from Allen at the 19:28, 35-31. The Muskies would answer back with a Davis three-pointer to bring the game back to one point, 35-34.

Mount Union would close the game out on a 11-7 run with their largest lead of the half  that came at the 1:27 mark when Amanda Turner (Wooster/Wooster) would hit a three-pointer to push the score to its finale, 72-57.  

Mount Union returns home to face Heidelberg for an OAC game at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex Saturday Jan. 19th at 3:00 pm.
