Turner Scores Career-High As No. 21 Women’s Basketball Wins At Home Over Heidelberg, 96-85

ALLIANCE, Ohio –  Junior Amanda Turner (Wooster/Wooster) scored a career-high 26 points to lead No. 21 Mount Union over Heidelberg, 96-85 in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday January 19th at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

With its win, Mount Union moves to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the OAC.

Turner led the way for the Purple Raiders with 26 points and tied school record eight made three-pointers in a single game, shared by Allie Graf vs Muskingum in the 2002-03 campaign.

Turner went 8-of-13 from beyond the three point arc helping the Raiders make school record and conference record with 19 made three-pointers in a game.

Senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) recorded a double-double scoring 21 points and dishing out a career and game-high 10 assists.

Heidelberg (5-12, 1-9 OAC) had three players score in double-digits, led by junior Kathleen Phillips scoring a game-high 29 points, senior Jordan Ickes and junior Emily Giel scoring 23 and 11 points respectively.

The lead changed hands twice and was tied three times early in the first half of the game. Mount Union would only trail three times in the game. Mount Union would grab the early three point lead off of LaMattina's three-pointer at the 17:54 mark, 3-0. The Student Princes would grab their first lead after a jumper from Ickes and a three-pointer from Megan Miller at the 16:55, 5-3.

The game would get tied two times in the early going with the Princes taking their second and third lead at the 16 minute mark and the 15:20 mark. The Raiders would fight off those deficits and take the lead by three when junior Olivia Holt would hit a three-pointer at the 14:39 mark. The Raiders would go on a 17-9 run up to the 10 minute mark gaining a double-digit lead, 30-19.

The largest lead for the Raiders would come at the 1:54 mark when senior Maggie Miller hit a three-pointer pushing it to a 21 point lead, 52-31, before the Princes had five unanswered pointers before the half, 52-36.

The Raiders would start the second up by 16 points and go on a 9-0 to the 17:54 mark making their largest lead of the game 25 points, 61-36. The Raiders would go 7-of-18 from beyond the arc in the second half, before closing out the game with an 11 point lead. The Princes would get within nine points two times late in the second half before the Raiders went back up by 11 with a free-throw from LaMattina and another one from sophomore Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) at the 10 second mark to bring the game to its final score, 96-85.

The Raiders set their new season high in points for a game at 96, previously 85 points set at home last Saturday Jan. 12th against Wilmington.

Mount Union travels to University Heights, Ohio to face John Carroll for an OAC game on Wednesday Jan. 23rd at 7:30 pm.
