GAME PREVIEW -- No. 20 Mount Union Travels To John Carroll

No. 20 ranked Mount Union travels to John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup Wednesday Jan. 23 at 7:30 pm in University Heights, Ohio.

There will be a LIVESTATS feed and LIVE VIDEO for the game.

Mount Union is 14-3, 8-2 OAC and is coming off a 96-85 win at home against Heidelberg in an OAC matchup last Saturday as the Purple Raiders were led by junior Amanda Turner (Wooster/Wooster) with team-high 26 points as she tied the school record with three-pointers made in a game at eight.

Senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) chipped in with 21 points and game-high 10 assists. On the season LaMattina averages 17.1 points and 4.6 assists.

John Carroll (10-7, 3-7 OAC) comes into the game Saturday after a loss at Ohio Northern 72-61 on Jan. 19, dropping five of the last six OAC games.

The Blue Streaks are led by junior Melissa Spahar, who averages 15.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. John Carroll was led by sophomore Beth Switzler and Spahar in the loss to Ohio Northern with 13 points apiece.

Mount Union returns home to take on Capital in an OAC game Saturday Jan. 26 at 2:00 pm.

THE SERIES

This will be the 64th meeting between the teams since 1975 with Mount Union holding a 38-25 lead in the series. The Raiders have won seven of the last eight meetings between the teams including a 72-52 win at home earlier this season, December 5th 2012.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 146-66 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 157-82.

Krisite Maravalli (Susquehanna Univeristy '93) is 142-196 in her 13th season at John Carroll. Maravalli has been improving the Blue Streaks program after inheriting a team that only won six games in 1998-1999. The Blue Streaks went to their first OAC tournament championship game in 2010-2011. As player at Susquehanna she was a three-time All-Conference player who helped the team to three NCAA Division III playoff appearances (1991, 1992 and 1993).
