GAME PREVIEW - No. 15 Women’s Basketball Travels To Baldwin Wallace Wednesday

No. 15 ranked Mount Union travels to Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup Wednesday Jan. 30 at 7:30 pm in Berea, Ohio.

There will be a LIVESTATS feed and VIDEO for the game.

The Purple Raiders (16-3, 10-2 OAC) are coming off a 58-45 win against Capital last Saturday at the MAAC as sophomore Aly Daniel (Willard/Willard) led the way with 14 points. Senior Marybeth Leitch (Rocky River/Rocky River) cleaned up the glass with game-high eight rebounds.

On the season, senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) leads the Raiders with averages 16.3 points, 4.6 assists and 3.4 steals per game.

Baldwin-Wallace (10-9, 5-7 OAC) comes into the game Wednesday dropping three straight conference games including the loss on Saturday (Jan.26) at Otterbein 77-48.

The Yellow Jackets are led by junior guard Jessica Lairson, who averages 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.  

Mount Union next goes on the road Saturday February 2nd to face Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in Westville, Ohio at 3 pm.

THE SERIES

This will be the 79th meeting between the teams with the series being tied at 39. Mount Union has won four of the last five meetings including a win earlier this season at home on December 19th, 82-79.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 148-66 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 159-82.

Cheri Harrer is 456-169 in her 23rd season. Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in school history at Baldwin-Wallace. Under Harrer's direction BW has won seven of the last 13 OAC regular season championships and five OAC Tournament titles, while appearing in 11 of the last 17 Division III national tournaments.
