GAME PREVIEW - No. 22 Women’s Basketball Hosts No. 6 Ohio Northern Saturday

No. 22 ranked Mount Union hosts No. 6 ranked Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup Saturday, February 9th, at 3:00 pm at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

There will be a LIVE STATS feed and the game will be broadcast on the radio on WDPN 1310 AM and WRMU 91.1.

The Purple Raiders (18-4, 12-3 OAC) enter the game Saturday after winning at home against the Muskingum Muskies where freshman Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) led the way for the Raiders with game-high and career-high 24 points hitting eight three-pointers as senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) chipped in with her second double-double, 10 points 10 assists.

Ohio Northern (21-1, 15-0 OAC) enters Saturday's game with a 20-game regular season win streak and a 15-game OAC win streak on the line. The Polar Bears won this past Wednesday against Heidelberg, 70-58 as they were led by junior Cenzie Yoder with team-high's 25 points and 12 rebounds as senior Joanna Snyder chipped in with the team's next best 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Mount Union has won the OAC regular season title each of the last two seasons but an Ohio Northern win Saturday gives the Polar Bears the outright OAC title this season.

Mount Union travels to Marietta Wednesday, February 13th at 7:30 pm for an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup in Marietta, Ohio.

THE SERIES

This will be the 64th meeting between the teams with Mount Union holding a 33-30 lead in the series.  Ohio Northern won the meeting earlier this season, 62-45 in Ada but before that Mount Union had won the eight previous meetings including the OAC Championship game last year in Alliance.  The Polar Bears last win in Alliance was a 47-44 on January 17, 2009.

EARLIER THIS SEASON

The Polar Bears won the matchup in Ada, Ohio 62-45, Bova led the Raiders with 10 points as senior Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) led the way with eight rebounds. The Bears had three score in double-digits, led by senior Morgan Dumbaugh with 17 points, Snyder with 16 points, Yoder with 11 points and senior Katie Mengos cleaned up the glass with game-high 12 rebounds.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 151-67 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 162-83.

Michele Durand (Bluffton '88) is 173-139 in her 12th season at Ohio Northern coming off last season's second place finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference at 21-6 overall and 14-4 in the OAC, guiding them to the school's first OAC Tournament Championship appearance since 1988. In the 2007-08 season she was named the Russell Athletic/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Region Six Coach of the Year for taking the team to new heights, 19-7 overall and 14-4 in the OAC. Durand was named OAC Co-Coach of the year in 2006-07.
