Women’s Basketball Falls On The Road In Overtime At Marietta, 89-84

MARIETTA, Ohio – Mount Union drops its second game in a row with an 89-84 Ohio Athletic Conference loss at Marietta Wednesday.

With the loss, the Purple Raiders fall to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in the OAC while the Pioneers improve to 9-15 overall and 4-13 in the OAC.

The Raiders were led by senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) who scored game-high 28 points.

Sophomore Aly Daniel (Willard/Willard) and freshman Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) each chipped in 10 and 13 points respectively while senior Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) got a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to round out the double-digit scorers for Mount Union.

The Pioneers were led by junior Tori Dixon who scored team-high 26 points. Junior Paige Lamb, senior Krissy Rowe and sophomore duo Candice Alexander and Heather Booth all chipped in the overtime victory with 11 points, 14 points, 15 points and 14 points respectively to round out Marietta's double-digits scorers.

The score would changes hands nine times and be tied 11 times during the first half of the game. The largest lead for the Pioneers was five points that they reached twice at the 13:25 mark and 8:30 mark. The Raiders largest lead of the half was three points reached twice at the 8:46 mark and the three point cushion they took into halftime 38-35.

In the second half the lead changed hands six times and was tied six times. Marietta came out of the halftime break and went on an 14-9 run to grab the five point lead at the 16:01 mark. Mount Union would battle back with an 19-9 run to take the lead back up by five, 66-61 at the 8:56 mark. The Pioneers would fight back to tie the game at 80 at the end of regulation.  

In the start of the overtime period, Marietta would take the quick two point advantage before the Raiders answered back with two free-throws from senior Marybeth Leitch (Rocky River/Rocky River). After the game was tied back up at 84, Marietta would end overtime on an 5-0 run to take the win by five points 89-84.

Mount Union travels on the road to Wilmington Saturday, February 16th for the final regular season OAC matchup at 3:00 pm in Wilmington, Ohio.
