GAME PREVIEW - Women's Basketball Travels To Wilmington Saturday For Final Regular Season Game

Mount Union's women's basketball team plays on the road for the final Ohio Athletic Conference regular season game Saturday at 3:00 pm at Wilmington.

There will be a LIVE STATS feed and LIVE AUDIO for the game.

The Purple Raiders (18-6, 12-5 OAC) are coming off a 89-84 loss to Marietta last Wednesday at the Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, Ohio as the Raiders were led by senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) with game-high 28 points and team-high five assists. Senior Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) grabbed a double-double with 14  points  11 rebounds as sophomore Aly Daniel(Willard/Willard) chipped in with 10 points and freshman Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had 13 points.

On the season, the Raiders are led by senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) who averages 17.0 points per game, 4.9 assists per game and 3.0 steals per game.

Wilmington (14-10, 10-7 OAC) comes into the game with dropping their last game at home, Wednesday to No. 4 ranked Ohio Northern, 63-48. The Quakers were led by senior Bria Eslick with team-high nine points and five rebounds.

On the season, the Quakers are led by senior duo Brianna Peters who averages team-high 10.0 points per game with 6.1 rebounds a game and LeAnn Topp who averages 8.2 points per game with team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.

Mount Union will play in the OAC tournament with an opponent and time to be announced.

THE SERIES

Mount Union has won five-straight meetings between the two teams, with Wilmington holding the 11-8 lead since the 2005-06 campaign. The last win for the Quakers was in quarterfinals of the 2009 OAC Tournament, 65-61.

EARLIER THIS SEASON

In the matchup earlier this season, on January 12th, the Raiders beat the Quakers 85-75 at home. Freshman Jessie Baldridge (Mount Gilead/Mount Gilead) led the way for the Raiders with a career-high and game-high 26 points. LaMattina chipped in with 16 points, six steals and six assists as junior Amanda Turner (Wooster/Wooster) had 11 points and Allen led the way with game-high 10 rebounds. The Quakers were led by junior Haley Howard with team-high 14 points, Peters who had 12 points and sophomore Spencer Robles who had 11 points. Junior McKenzie Whippel led Wilmington with six rebounds.  The keys in the game were points off turnovers where the Raiders outscored the Quakers 21-9 and the bench points where the Raiders outscored the Quakers 51-32.

COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 151-69 in her eighth season at her Alma mater. Venet was an All-American for the Purple Raiders and is the OAC's all-time assists leader. As head coach, the Raiders have won two OAC regular season titles, three OAC Tournament titles and made three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. She is a two-time OAC Coach of the Year and was WBCA Region and D3hoops Region Coach of the Year in 2012. She was an assistant coach at Bowling Green and Minnesota State-Mankato then got her first head coaching job at Manchester (Ind.). Including her season at Manchester, her career coaching record is 162-85.

Jerry Scheve is 423-182 in his 23rd season at Wilmington and has recorded 413 wins. With Scheve on the sideline, the Quakers average more than 19 wins a season. He was named the National Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Quakers to the 2003-04 NCAA Divison III national championship. Scheve also has been named Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year, Ohio Women's Basketball Coach of the Year as well as Coach of the Year in the AMC, HCAC and the OAC.
