Women’s Basketball Wins Final Regular Season Game At Wilmington, 74-67

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Mount Union won the regular season finale at Wilmington, 74-76  in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday, February 16th at the Fred Raizk Arena.

With the win, The Purple Raiders improve to 19-6 overall and 13-5 in the OAC while the Quakers fall to 14-11 overall and 10-8 in the OAC. The Raiders are seeded third in the OAC Tournament while Wilmington picks up the fourth seed. Both Mount Union and Wilmington host games Tuesday, February 19th in the OAC Tournament.

The Raiders were led by senior Tierney Allen (Alliance/Alliance) who scored team-high 16 points.

Senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) scored 12 points in the victory moving her to number two on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,587 moving past Dana Zarzycki from 1991-95 with 1,580.

Seniors Shelby Kies and Bria Eslick each had 16 to lead the Quakers while fellow senior Brianna Peters had a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Mount Union controlled most of the first half and a 10-2 run capped by an Allen three-pointer midway through the period that gave the Raiders a 19-11 lead.  Mount Union would lead by as many as 10 points before Wilmington closed the half on a 9-2 run as the Raiders took a 35-32 lead into the locker room.

Wilmington opened the second half on a 6-0 surge to retake the lead 38-35 before Mount Union rallied with a 12-2 run to go back up 47-40 with 13:32 to play.  

The Quakers made another run -- this time a 10-2 burst -- over the next 2:30 to reclaim the lead with just over 11 minutes to play.

Allen then took over the game as the senior scored 10 points to lead a 23-12 charge that gave Mount Union the lead for good as the Raiders went on to the eight point victory.

Mount Union will host a second round game in the OAC Tournament Tuesday at 6 pm against the winner of a Monday first round matchup between No. 6 seed John Carroll and No. 7 seed Marietta.  

The game will be the first half of a doubleheader as the men host an OAC Tournament game at 8 pm.  Tickets for the games will be sold at the door and are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $3 for students and OAC students are FREE.  No passes will be accepted for the games.

Heidelberg/Muskingum/Capital/Wilmington winner at #1 Ohio Northern, 7:30 pm

Saturday, Feb. 23 - Finals

Semifinal winners at highest remaining seed, 3 pm or 7:30 pm
