Women’s Basketball Falls In Semifinals At Otterbein, 80-57

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – No. 3 seed Mount Union falls on the road in the semifinals in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament at No. 2 seed Otterbein, 80-57 Thursday evening.

With the loss, the Purple Raiders fall to 20-7 overall and Otterbein improves to 21-5 overall, advancing to the OAC Tournament Championship game, Saturday, February 23rd.

The Raiders were led by freshman Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) and sophomore Aly Daniel (Willard/Willard) with team-high 10 points apiece.

Senior Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) scored seven points in the loss, moving her into first place overall on the school's all-time scorers list with 1,606 passing Kerri Canning at 1,605.

Otterbein was led by senior Hannah Day as she tied her career-best 30 points in the victory for the Cardinals.

In the first half the score was tied two times and the lead remained to Otterbein. The Cardinals opened up the game quickly on a 14-3 run with the Raiders answering back with a 7-0 run to come within four points with 9:48 to go in the half.

Bova's three-pointer at the 4:33 mark cut the Cardinals lead to two points, 24-22 before junior Bridget Lyons (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) had a layup at the 2:52 to tie the game at 24 points. Otterbein would close the half on a 9-2 run to take the seven point lead into the locker room.

The Cardinals came out of the half to go on a 12-3 to take the 45-29 lead with 15:34 to go in the game. Otterbein put the game away going on a 30-17 run to the two minute mark in the game, 75-46. The Raiders would end the game on an 11-5 run with LaMattina scoring her 1,606th career point, bringing the game to its final 80-57.
