WOOSTER, Ohio – Mount Union sophomore Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had 19 points, two rebounds and one assist in the 98-42 victory over Thiel (Pa.) in the first game of the Nan Nichols Classic hosted by the Wooster College Saturday.
Jaclyn Watkins led the Tomcats (0-1) with 20 points and five rebounds as Hannah Stoneman recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Purple Raiders bench produced 60 points led by Reed and senior Amanda Turner who had 11 points (Wooster/Wooster).
There was no doubt that Mount Union controlled the game, opening on an 18-0 run over the first seven minutes, while Thiel would finally get on the board off a free throw from Watkins. The Raiders would go into the half leading 51-21.
The Raiders opened the second half with three three-pointers from Bova, junior Chandler Moore (Girard,Pa./Girard) and senior Olivia Holt (Williamsfield/Pymatuning Valley) as Mount Union continued to build the lead. The Raiders would go on for the 98-42 victory to start the season 1-0.
Mount Union continues play in the Nan Nichols Classic at the Wooster College as they take on Earlham (Ind.) tomorrow at 1 pm.
