BETHANY, W.Va – The Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Bethany (W.Va.) College 74-62 on Monday night in a non-conference matchup at Hummel Fieldhouse.
Junior Aly Daniel (Williard/Williard) would score 15 of her career-high 18 points in the first half and sophomore Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) would chip in with 15 points to lead the Purple Raiders.
Sami Schott had 18 points, 10 rebounds and Taylor Verrico would record 16 points to lead the Bision (1-2).
Mount Union would open the game with a three-pointer from Nancy Osborne (North Canton/GlenOak), as the Raiders and the Bison would exchange buckets throughout the first half. The Raiders would go on a 7-0 run with 12:51 left in the first half to make the score 21-12.
Mount Union would take that nine point lead, 40-31, going into the half.
The Raiders would open the second half just like they started the first with a three-ball though this time from Bova. The Bison would keep close with the Raiders going on a 13-7 run with 12:50 remaining and only trailing 50-44.
Bethany would get within five, 56-51, with 8:03 left in the second but the Raiders would outscore the Bision 18-11 the rest of the way and take the 74-62 victory.
Mount Union (5-0) travels to University Heights when they open Ohio Athletic Conference play against John Carroll at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, December 4th.
