The Purple Raiders will travel to Westerville, Ohio in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, afternoon at 3:00 pm. The Raiders are going into Saturday's game on a two-game skid, having lost their first two conference matchups to John Carroll (Dec. 4), and Heidelberg at home last Saturday (Dec. 7), 73-66.

Heidelberg (3-4, 0-2) is also on a two-game skid having lost to Muskingum, 74-62, at home on Saturday Dec. 7.


While under Venet the Raiders are 11-8 against Otterbein. The Raiders defeated Otterbein in their two regular season matchups, but fell to the Cardinals in the OAC Tournament semifinals in Westerville, 80-57.


Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98)

is in her ninth season as head coach at Mount Union. Venet played for the Purple Raiders and holds numerous school records, including most points in a season (587 in 1997-98), most career assists (843), career triple-doubles (10) and is fifth on the all-time scoring list (1,528 points). Since taking over, she brought the Raiders back to being one of the nation's top programs, three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles, and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament including to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012.

Connie Richardson (Heidelberg '86)

is in her 23rd season as head coach for Otterbein. Richardson was a four-year letterwinner for Heidelberg and led the OAC in scoring (20.1) and rebounding (14.02) during her time as a player. Since taking over, she ranks as the most winningest coach at Otterbein. The Cardinals are coming off their best season in program history last year, going 21-7 overall and advancing to the OAC Tournament championship for just the second time and making their first-ever NCAA appearance in women's basketball.


Otterbein is 0-2 in the conference coming off a 71-69 loss to Marietta (Dec. 4) and a 74-62 loss in their home-opener to Muskingum last Saturday.

The Cardinals average 66.7 points per game, while their opponents average 72.4 points per game.

Otterbein is led by junior Tabatha Piper who averages 16.3 points per game and is second in the conference in rebounding averaging 9.2 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Amariah Huck averages 12.7 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game, while junior Chelsea Reed leads the conference with 34 assists.


The Raiders lead the conference in points per game (80.1) while holding their opponents to only 66.7 points per game.

Sophomore Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) leads the conference shooting 66.7 percent of free throws. 

Mount Union is tied with Capital at fourth with total rebounds (42.3 rpg) and is second in the conference averaging 17.9 assists per game.


The Raiders will remain on the road as they travel to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, December 18, tip-off is at 7:30 pm.
