Women’s Basketball Falls to Wilmington Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team lost to Wilmington Saturday in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest in Wilmington, Ohio.

Mount Union (8-7, 2-6 OAC)  had two players with double figures, sophomores Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) and Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) with 14 and 10 points respectively.

The Quakers were led by Makenzie Wippel who had a game high 18 points and Haley Howard who added 16 and seven boards.

Mount Union led 5-4 after a Grippi free throw in the first two minutes of the game, before Wilmington would go on a 10-2 run to take its biggest lead of the half, 14-7.

Mount Union recovered outscoring the Quakers 23-12 run to take a 30-26 lead with 1:31 left in the first half and would hold the lead going into halftime, 32-31.

A Wippel layup to open the second half allowed the Quakers to regain the lead.  Mount Union would tie the game three times over the next 13 minutes with the final time being 49-49 with 6:49 to play.

Wilmington would then go on a decisive 10-0 run to put the game away.

Mount Union will host Muskingum Wednesday, January 22nd in an OAC matchup at 7:30 pm in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
