Women's Basketball Hosts Muskingum Wednesday Night

Mount Union's women's basketball team will host Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex in Alliance.

The Purple Raiders (8-7, 2-6 OAC) have won two of their last four games after falling to Wilmington 67-59 Saturday in Wilmington.

Mount Union remains in the fifth spot in the conference averaging 71.3 points per game and points allowed at 65.2.

The Raiders are ranked sixth in the nation from behind the arc averaging 8.9 shots per game.

Mount Union is led by sophomore Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) who is ranked fifth in the conference in scoring and leads the Raiders with 13.7 points per game. Sophomore Sarah Grippi (Ventia, Pa./Peters Township) is second in scoring with 8.3 points per game, third in the conference in shooting percentage (57.3), and leads the team with 5.5 rebounds per contest.

Muskingum (4-10, 2-6 OAC) is tied with Mount Union, Marietta, and Otterbein in the conference standings for seventh place. The Muskies are on a five game-skid, having lost to Baldwin Wallace, 70-46 on Saturday, and 78-65 to Capital on Wednesday.

The Muskies are led by Tori Jarrett who is ranked eighth in the conference in scoring and leads the team (13.3 points per game). Meghan Billick is ranked fourth in the conference and leads Muskingum grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES

This is the 16th meeting between the two teams under Venet. Mount Union has won 15 out of the 16 meetings, with the last loss on January 24, 2009 at Muskingum.

THE COACHES

Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 161-77 in her ninth season as head coach at her alma mater. Since taking over, she brought the Raiders back to being one of the nation's top programs, three OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles, and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament including to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. Venet was an All-American player at Mount Union during a time that included three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances with a second place finish in 1996.

Beth Fox (Bluffton '98) is 83-161 in her 10th season as head coach. Since taking over, she has taken the Fighting Muskies to the OAC Tournament Final Four. Fox was a four-year letterwinner and was inducted into the Bluffton Hall of Fame.
